MALDI-TOF MS profiling of piscine Acinetobacter species from wastewater-related waters

Acinetobacter species are common inhabitants of freshwater and marine ecosystems with a capacity to induce disease in affected fish. To facilitate their rapid reliable identification, matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS), was applied from The aims the study were, thus, identify profile tissues fish living vulnerable environment impacted by wastewaters, assess potential MALDI-TOF MS as method for discriminating these acinetobacters. Fish were sampled waterways activity wastewater treatment plant. Samples gills, spleen, kidney liver streaked onto general-purpose media purity. profiling identification acinetobacters conducted MS, samples prepared ethanol/formic acid extraction.The identified retrieved gills (68.96 %), (13.79 (10.34 spleen (6.89 %). isolated all tested A. johnsonii (79.31 pittii tandoii (3.44 guilouiae gerneri Highly probable identifications obtained 48.27 % tested, indicating fully identification. MALDI?TOF gave excellent results piscine wastewater-affected waterways. It is recommendable technique future discrimination, accurate bacteria critical both environmental pollution management human/veterinary clinical diagnostics.
